Ethos of Agriculture

The Sequeiras hail from a family whose predominant occupation for generations has been agriculture. The current generation of the family has been brought up with strong cultural values and an immense respect and love for farm produce and food. To this date the family takes pride in their agricultural roots. They decided to take their respect and love to the next level. Thus, were sown the seeds of the Food related Business that would go on to assume colossal proportions beyond the imagination of the family.

The Beginning

Mr. Lawrence Sequeira, who began his career very early in life, decided to become an entrepreneur in the Restaurant Industry. In the last decade of the 1900s he started a venture, which however did not flourish as per his expectations. Mr. Lawrence realized that in order to succeed as an entrepreneur in the Restaurant industry, he would have to learn the Basics of Restaurant Management. He worked on various assignments in the hospitality industry, learning the nuances of the trade along the way.

Mr. Joseph Sequeira, who was very young at that time, decided to pursue his higher education in Norway. His chosen field of Electrical Engineering was not related to the hospitality industry directly. The work assignments that he took up with Multinational Companies after completing his education gave him insights in Administration and Management, helped him develop a Professional outlook and simultaneously igniting the passion for Entrepreneurship. During his tenure in Norway Mr. Joseph was also exposed to International Cuisines and Cultures. He returned to India complete his education, with a solitary aim of combining his International Experience along with the hardcore Hospitality Experience of Mr. Lawrence in order to set up an Entrepreneurial Restaurant Venture incorporating International Cuisines. He persuaded Mr. Lawrence to give entrepreneurship another shot, this time with an aim to popularize Global Cuisines.

After a lot of discussions and debates, they finally agreed to start afresh and launch a restaurant that would serve multiple world cuisines under one roof. In the year 2004, joined by their sister Mrs. Catherine D’Souza, a Hospitality Industry professional herself, they created a partnership firm, SBS Food Court, SBS standing for "Sequeira Brothers & Sisters". With a combined Hospitality Experience of over forty years, they created a family run restaurant venture called Flag's Veg World. The restaurant, situated in Malad, Mumbai, was designed as a cozy 120-seater with homely interiors that would appeal to the vegetarian foodies in the locality and attract Families.

The focus was on Vegetarian Cuisine with an aim to meet the dining out needs of the Jains, Gujaratis and Marwari’s that reside in and around Malad in suburban Mumbai. The challenges of catering to the epicurean needs of the Jain Community were an excellent opportunity for Flag's to test its culinary strengths and skills especially in International Cuisines. There was an immense demand for Quality Vegetarian Catering and Banqueting Services in Malad.

S.B.S. Food Court decided to capitalize on the demand for Banqueting / Catering Services and ventured into the Banqueting business by opening a Proprietary sister concern, the Flag's Marriage and Party Hall in the year 2008 and catered to Social Events.

Not the ones to rest on their laurels, the Sequeiras floated a private limited company by the name of Flag's Hotels Pvt. Ltd. which began scouting for newer options to spread their wings. With the astounding success of both the restaurant as well as the Banquet Venue, a huge base of loyal customers cultivated through persistent efforts and personalized service, the Sequeirasdecided to create Brand Flag's and opened yet another restaurant in the same vicinity in 2011, only this one being much larger than its predecessor. Together, these three outlets enjoyed immense popularity and soon became a household name amongst theVegetarian Food Lovers of Malad and Goregaon.

Having established themselves in the suburban area of Malad, they decided to spread their wings to other suburban areas as well. Upon spotting a huge potential for Banquets in the Lokhandwala area of Andheri, the company acquired and developed Flag's Avant Garde which was conceptualized and created in 2015 to offer an innovative and futuristic banqueting experience to its clientele. A new addition to its vast repertoire of Vegetarian World Cuisine Delicacies was the introduction of Non-Vegetarian Gourmet Foods and service of Alcoholic Beverages.

Expansion and Development plans in 2020 were been in the pipeline, but they had to be put on hold due to the due to the COVID 19 Pandemic. It was during this period that the company decided to restructure itself and formed a public limited company SBS Food Courts Limited in April 2021 with “Flag’s” as the Flagship Brand so as to be able to put the expansion plan into action. Flag’s Hotels Pvt. Ltd. and Flag’s Marriage & Party Hall continue to remain a sister concerns of SBS Food Courts Limited.

With near-normalcy being restored after pandemic situation, SBS Food Courts Limited, the newly formed company opened its first new outlet in November 2021. Flag’s III Restaurant & Banquets, located at Milap Cinema, Kandivali West, Mumbai
